Abstract
Dental cement should meet the following qualifications; film thickness, working time, setting time, retentivity, compressive strength, tensile strength, resilience, adhesive bonding strength, solubility, and easy removal. Currently, variety of cement is in use, as per the patient¡¯s prosthetic appliance and oral health; meanwhile, diverse resin cements are being consumed due to the immense use of aesthetic restorative material. Previous researches include study on physical properties of cement, however there are lack of studies about the patterns of usage. Therefore, the study will investigate the criteria and management methods of the dental cement, as well as the types of cements that are used for prosthetic appliances. The study surveyed on 258 dental clinic workers who work in the capital area, using self-administered questionnaires precisely. According to the study, adhesive bonding strength was prioritized when deciding the type of cement, whereas the information was gained by attending seminars and academies. Most of the recipients read the instruction manual and expiration date (p>0.05), regardless of the variance in occupational groups, positions, ages, and clinical careers, while each occupational group¡¯s frequency of checking the expiration date was statistically significant (p<0.05). The mostly used cement for bonding gold inlays, crowns and bridges was resin-modified ionomer cement, which was also most frequently used in post, aesthetic prosthesis, orthodontic bracket, and implant-supported bridge. A variety of seminars are highly recommended for a clear understanding on the types and characteristics of the cements. Moreover, oral health professionals should attend these seminars to be informed with the types, characteristics, usages, expiration dates and storage methods of the cements.
